48y & pregnant with 2nd husband

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, May 13, 2007 | 0 comments

Congratulations on your little surprise (48 years old and pregnant with 2nd husband)

I think that we all need to stand back and realize that when it comes down to it EVERY child is a precious gift from God, and although it may not be in what we would normally perceive to be a perfect setting, that child is in fact made in perfect love.

My Husband's parents were close to 50, when he was born. His parents are older than my Grandparents!

A good friend of mine is going to be 48 when her twins are born, and this wasn't a planned pregnancy.

I am currently 47, and 8 months pregnant with my third child. I had my first baby at 40 and the second at 44. I feel no different physically than I did when I was 30 and so far, this has been my easiest pregnancy with no problems whatsoever. I am sick and tired of judgemental people who feel they have a right to declare the "proper" age to have children.

Both of my parents were older [50 & 52 years old] when they had my sister and I were born. I have an older brother who could have been my father, and have have nieces and nephews that are older than me. And no, I was NEVER ashamed of my 70 year old parents, and my 103 year old grandparents at my high school graduation. Where I come from, you respect your elders and you appreciate the wisdom and experiences that have taken them decades to accumulate.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
