The intense debate surrounding a very touchy subject.

In a fascinating article that recently appeared in New York Magazine, writer Lisa Miller outlines and ultimately defends the current boom of men and women becoming parents at age 50 and beyond.

The article begins with an anecdote - a couple meets and falls in love when she's 47 years old, and he's 54 years old.

Through a donor egg and her husband's sperm, the woman gives birth to her first daughter at age 50.

Two years later, she attempts to get pregnant again.

This time, she has to be brought out of menopause with hormones before she is able to become pregnant.

Shortly thereafter, she gives birth to her second daughter.

This anecdote is only one of many, and they're on the rise. Birth rates among women ages 45 to 49 have risen 17% in just the past three years alone. Reproductive technology, of course, accounts for this sharp increase.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.

From the point of view of our survival as a species, isn't there a strong moral case for having a go at it later in life? As we take longer to "grow up" (high school, college, maybe grad school, getting a stable career...) isn't there a moral/evolutionary imperative to try to have kids at an older age? Then, maybe our biology will catch up in another few 100 years.

HI! We are currently in development and casting a show about women who are pregnant OR TTC (trying to conceive) after 50. The number of women who have become pregnant after 40 in the past 20 years has DOUBLED, so clearly there is an exciting trend here.
I am looking to interview women who are pregnant or in the process of trying to conceive. We are specifically looking for women to share the unique hurdles, risks, and joys of being pregnant after 50. Every pregnancy story is different, and we are looking to hear ALL different stories from women of ALL different backgrounds. I’m hoping you will share with some people you know?
My intentions are to interview with women who are open and excited to share their journey. During this interview We’ll be asking questions about the woman’s path to getting pregnant, the current situation, and what the future holds for her and her family.
This Skype will be used to decide the final group of women who we would record the TV show with.
I ask women who are willing to share their story (and possibly their experience) to please send me a quick note about themselves, their current pregnancy situation, and attach a picture and contact info! SEND TO Alex AT alexshaw DOT tv

I truly appreciate your time and please let me know your thoughts or feel free to share!
