My parents were 45 having me

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, April 14, 2008 | 0 comments

I have older parents (they were 45 having me), and wouldn’t change it for the world. They are now pushing 80, and are really fit, active and healthy.

My client called last night 8 weeks pregnant - 45 years old, and still having hot flashes.

I don't think 35 is too old. I had my first baby at 36 and she was (and is) completely healthy.

My grandmother had her last baby at 44, and that was over 50 years ago!! LOL Seriously, I really don't think 35 is as "old" as it used to be if you know what I mean. And here I am at 38, trying for #2.

I'm a NICU [neonatal intensive care unit] nurse, and I see probably as many babies with "issues" that are born to women in their teens, 20's, 30's and 40's. If there's going to be an issue, then I believe it will happen no matter how old you are.

Good luck, and hang in there if this is truly what your heart desires!

I conceived my son naturally when I was 44. I had him at 45.
I know this sounds cliché, but relax, enjoy, and it will happen.

After I miscarried the first one, I did not expect to get pregnant again right away... especially at age 44. If it happened I figured it would probably take awhile, so we went to Orlando, Florida on vacation got a nice cottage with full kitchen, screened in balcony, and hot tub, enjoyed Sea World, and Universal Studios and did some beach time in Daytona.

While there we rediscovered spontaneous intimacy just for the fun of it and enjoyed hot, passionate, wild, and uninhibited sex (I know TMI [too much information] ), again just like on our honeymoon without even thinking about conceiving.

I am not sure if it happened there, because I had a weird very short (about 3 days) but very heavy period after we got back but shortly after that discovered I was pregnant again. This was a little shy of 2 months after the miscarriage.

Now I am 37 weeks pregnant at age 45 with a baby boy, and just counting down. Who knows, a good fun red hot vacation with your husband may work for you also...

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
