44y mom with a beautiful baby boy

I am a 44 year old mom who just had a beautiful little baby boy, Daniel, after much difficulty.

I had my daughter at age 44 (this was after two pregnancy losses, one at age 19 and one at age 43). I had my son at age 46. Both were natural conceptions, both were Caesarean deliveries.

I am now 50, my daughter is 5 and in Kindergarten. My son is in pre-school, and will enter Kindergarten when I am 52. I love reading about other mid-life mommies.

After I got that devastating news at age 42 (high FSH [follicle stimulating hormone] ), I went on to get pregnant at 43, and deliver a perfectly healthy baby at almost 44.

My well respected RE [reproductive endocrinologist] said that was impossible. But it happened and it was a totally natural cycle -- no medical intervention at all. I have heard many similar stories since then.

My regular OB [obstetrician] doesn't believe in the whole "high FSH" theory. He says that as long as you have a menstrual cycle, you can produce a healthy baby.

I'm reading "Moll Flanders" for my English lit. class; it's an OLD book written in the late 1600's (or possibly early 1700's). The main character in the book is Moll; and I just read a few pages ago that she had two babies with one of her husbands in her late 40's - her last at age 48 and she "didn't think she'd have any more". LOL.

Well, I haven't read to the end yet to find out if there are any more surprise babies, but it is obvious that even the writer back then knew that women could and DID have babies into their forties!

Yes, I was doing some research a while ago on a family that lived in the mid 19th century. The woman had had six children total. She had her first child at age 24 and her fifth child at age 36. Then she had her SIXTH child at age 48 (!!). That sixth kid went on to have six kids of his own. Her husband was eight years older than she was, so he was 56 when their last child was born.

No donor eggs in the 19th century of course!!!!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.

I totally believe in pregnancy and birth over 44....

..what I do not believe is some women on here saying that got pregnant with only one act of sex in that month...

    Best wishes to all!
