I will be 44 when my baby is born

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, April 02, 2008 | 0 comments

I am 43 and will be almost 44 when my baby is born (I'm 11 weeks). I wasn't sure if I wanted another one either, but my husband is thrilled.

We've been married for almost one year. I have three children from a previous marriage, ages 24, 15 and 12 and thought I was done!

I too was looking forward to having more free time, and getting out more now that my kids are getting older but this pregnancy has changed all that.

At least I'll have two live in babysitters when the baby gets a little older! I'm still getting used to the idea but cautious, since I had a miscarriage last summer.

I would have to say we are living the same life.. 44 years old (last October), married 15 years this September, 3 children 11, 9, 5 (end of March).

Hubby put his hands in his head, said.. Oh my goodness.. This was not the plan..

But he also says it's a good thing.. So we are headed in the right direction. I'm still in shock. Went to the doctor today.. November 15 is the date he has given, but I'm not so sure.

I met my wonderful husband at 40, we were engaged 6 months later, and married a month before I turned 43. We both wanted to have children. ( I never wanted to have an only had 2 miscarriages )

I asked my then 19 year old how he would feel about me having another baby. His reply was " that’s great, but please don't have another only "

Well, 4 months later I was pregnant...... Had a beautiful healthy baby boy a month before turning 44.

Then it got tough... We tried very soon to have another. Then I had a pap test that came back moderate dysphasia. Pre cancerous...I took us back for a few months with the biopsy, and having to have my cervix frozen.

We actually sought out fertility help. Well, it did not work. We were just about ready to throw in the towel (I had a cyst, and could not do an IUI [intra-uterine insemination] cycle) when LOW AND BEHOLD I got pregnant, the first month I did not try to..... (TMI [too much information] ) Only did it once all month.

Well anyways... I had another beautiful healthy baby boy at 46 1/2. They are 2 1/2 years apart, sometimes best friends, sometimes not. If I could so it all over again, I WOULD.

I agree, but there could be exceptions. I feel 60 is definitely out. But 50.. Maybe, it depends on the health and lifestyle. I had 2 in my 40's.... One at almost 44 and one at 46 1/2.

I have a 24 year old from my previous marriage. I have to say, my body did not bounce back into shape, like it did in my 20's, but I am working on it (I am back into my size 8 jeans)

Hi, I'm 51 and have a five month old son. I got really tired of older women in the supermarket telling me what an adorable grandson I have, so I had some highlights put in my hair (I stopped dying it a few years ago, and it's completely grey/white).

Just the highlights make the grey look blonder and, no kidding, now I get 'how old is your son?' Go figure. As though I now have time to be getting my hair done!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
