She delivered a healthy baby boy at 49

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, May 02, 2007 | 0 comments

Someone I know had been married 26 years and always been told she couldn't have children. Two years ago, at age 49+, she thought she was in menopause. She delivered a healthy baby boy.

I'm in the same thought process. Conceived my daughter at 43 3/4 via IVF #4. She is 7 months now, I turned 45 on 1/29.

My personal take on this is, if one is making eggs and embies, and therefore making it to transfer, one has chance. As we age, the quantity and quality of the eggs diminishes. If there aren't enough eggs retrieved, the chances are low... If there are still eggs, then there could be a good one in the mix.

My name is Loretta and I am in my 8th week of pregnancy at age 44. I'll be 45 in June. I currently have an 18 year old, a 4 year old and I miscarried last year at 8 weeks. Needless to say I am a good mixture of excited and anxious.

Had my daughter 2 months shy of turning 42, two miscarriages (at 6 weeks and 7 weeks) at age 43, got pregnant at 44 1/2 and in June of this year gave birth to our son....at age 45! Yes, it can be done. And I'm a lot older than you!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
