My OB sees many many women in their 40's. Delivered a 49 year old shortly before my last was born!

I am 45, and I was 12 weeks pregnant when I had a miscarriage just 2 days ago. I have a 25 year old daughter from a previous marriage. My husband and I would very much like to have a child together.

We're hoping to try again in a couple of months even though the odds are against my advancing age. At least we now know that I can get pregnant at this age. It's just a matter of whether the pregnancy will be full term, and that the baby will be healthy.

I'm expecting my 4th in Nov. I am still in denial. We haven't told the kids yet, but since I'm not feeling well a lot, they probably won't be surprised. My kids are 10, 12, and 14. I'm 43, and will be 44 when the baby comes. I have been a basket-case since finding out. The doctors have been supportive. I go for a level 2 ultrasound on April 28.

My doctor is very supportive. Most of her OB patients are in their late 30's and well into their 40's. She delivered a healthy baby to a 50 year old woman.

I know a woman, happily married, with two beloved teenage sons, and - surprise - she wasn’t as peri-menopausal as she’d thought she was, and she became pregnant at age 45.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
