My great-grandmother had a baby at 48

My great-grandmother had a baby at 48, back in the "old days", when doctors were not as knowledgeable as they are today.

I want to give everyone a little bit of hope by telling that I am finally pregnant after years of ttc..... after three IVF cycles I am pregnant - only three weeks but hey - they say you can't be a little bit pregnant - you either are or you aren't..... I am and I want you all to feel that there is hope for you too. I am 44 and my man is 41 - we are both happy even though we know anything could still happen at this stage....

Tonight on Aussie tv was the story of Australia's oldest mum. She married at 46 and they had their first son by IVF 1 year later. A few years on she decided the boy needed a brother or sister. Back to IVF and after a couple of tries she decides to use her girlfriend's eggs because her's are too old by this stage. At 53 she gives birth to triplets and the show tonight was on how she is coping with her 3 year old triplets!!!!!

Ok ladies for those of us who need a little hope, here is some. A lady that was in mid to upper 40's came in the store where my daughter works. She said that she had 6 children, her oldest was 28 and youngest were twin girls that were 10. She was being treated for menopause for the last couple years and she found out she was pregnant at 24 weeks!!! She delivered a healthy little boy 6 weeks ago. Believe in Miracles!!!

Here's a story you can add to your web site if you want, and it happened to yours truly:
I went to a specialist in the summer of 2003, because I was 44 and TTC (my first) for 6 months. He tested my FSH (I don't even remember what it was, I was so clueless about this stuff back then) asked me to start charting. I went back in a month and he said the chart looked perfect, but that at my age there was nothing he could do for me unless I wanted donor eggs.

The next month I just charted and tried and I got pregnant. In May of 2004 my daughter was born, perfect and healthy. I had a natural birth, by the way, which was awesome. I am now 46 and TTC my second child. I miscarried in August of 2005, but I believe I will get pregnant again and carry to term.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
