The oldest my dr. had was 53y, natural conception

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, September 24, 2006 | 0 comments

Last time I was at clinic, one of the doctors asked me if it was a spontaneous pregnancy [at 47y], I said it was and my consultant said to her that yes, I had no problem getting pregnant, just carrying them. So we were discussing age and pregnancy, my consultant told me the oldest he had was 53, natural conception. She had gone to her doctor, he refused to test her, he told her she was hallucinating. That she was on the menopause, so she turned up at my consultants ante natal clinic and he scanned her, she was 15 weeks pregnant. He said the baby was wriggling away! She had an amnio and all was well and she had her baby, so I feel pretty young in comparison to that!

Another one I always remember was a lady on a TV programme about whether it was morally OK to have a baby when you are older. Of course I was glued to the screen. She said that although she had children from a previous relationship when she met her current partner he had none. She went on to have two more babies, one at 46 and one at 47, without any trouble at all, conceiving, carrying or delivering.

I know this is unusual but it can be done!

Just to let you know I am now 18 weeks pregnant, I have lots of aches and pains but not surprising as I had a few back problems before I got pregnant. Plus I am HUGE, next scan is 20 weeks on the 12th. Keep all fingers crossed for me, I need all the luck I can get at my age (47). This is my miracle baby, my last try, I am really trying my best to keep myself well and healthy. Baby dust to all

I got pregnant at age 40 with my son. Had a very easy pregnancy and a speedy delivery (23 minutes). I am 45 and pregnant with my third. I am 19 weeks and so far having an easy pregnancy. I did have two miscarriages between, one at 42 and one at 43 - Tammy

Had my daughter 2 months shy of turning 42, two miscarriages (at 6 weeks and 7 weeks) at age 43, got pregnant at 44 1/2 and in June of this year gave birth to our son....at age 45!

Yes, it can be done. And I'm a lot older than you! - Christie

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
