I think it is amazing that 1/3 of women over 40 can still get pregnant naturally.

That is pretty interesting, because articles on fertility these past few years have been scaring younger women into thinking they have to have their kids in their 20s (and this includes NYTimes articles!).

They talk about steep declines in fertility, etc., without mentioning there's still a 33% chance of getting pregnant in your 40s!

This may explain why one of the top groups of Americans to get abortions are women over 40!

Whoops! Can't cope with that surprise! (The other top group is teenagers)

If more people knew 33% of women over 40 can still get pregnant naturally, perhaps they would be more careful!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
