My OB delivered a baby for a 45y, no help from drugs.

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, June 28, 2006 | 0 comments

My Ob/Gyn told me yesterday that she delivers quite a few babies in the plus 40 group every year...and then she went on to say that most were natural! As she was leaving the office she turned to me and told me that a couple of months ago she delivered a baby for a 45 year old with no help from drugs.

But here's something that may inspire us older gals. My mother had not had a cycle for 2 FULL YEARS before she became pregnant with me. Her doctor, and she, both, assumed she was in full menopause....so when I came along....Shocker! I still don't understand it, but miracles do happen!

Julie had premature twins at age 44, the babies were in NICU for a long time, then she had a singleton, a healthy full-term girl at age 46/47;

Gale married late (age 40) and had a baby girl at age 42 and another baby girl at 45;

The gal that runs the homeschooling theatre group got married for the second time at 42, had a little boy at 43 and then her daughter at age 45, both born at home and is tandem nursing (how many 46 yr. olds do you know that are tandem nursing?), I would not be the least surprised if she shows up pregnant again;

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
