My friend is 45 years old. She is now 20 weeks pregnant. She told me that she and her husband tried every month and she felt relaxed - not really a lot of pressure - and she became pregnant naturally.

Our son Virgil was probably conceived in the final days of 2001. He arrived early, induced at 35 weeks after placental abruption - -something I, at age 46, was at increased risk for - -and was born perfectly healthy on August 22, 2002.

At age 45, I thought I knew my body well; you think you've got it covered. I was tired a lot, and my period was light, but I didn't even consider it. A colleague asked, "Could you be pregnant?" I bought a test and did it at lunch. I was so rattled I turned it upside down and it said I wasn't pregnant. I did another the next day. It was positive.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
