Parents were both 50 when he was born.

My son has two parents who were both 50 when he was born. At age 4, he still has 3 active and energetic grandparents as well as a (half) brother and sister in their 20's who are completely enamoured of him.

I am also a product of infertility and tried it all in my late 20's and early 30's fertility drugs, surgery, artificial insemination you name it. I also gave up and accepted it would just be me and my husband. I got a complete surprise at 38 and 42. I am now 43 my son is 5 and daughter is 9 months old. I would not trade them also for anything

I speak from experience since I was a classic surprise baby when my Mom was 46 and my Dad 52. My 3 brothers ranged in age from 16-26. It was like being an only child with brothers. My Mom and Dad were the most wonderful parents and were in excellent health when they had me

I have a friend who's mother had her at 47

I have a 2 friends and a cousin (plus myself) who had children past 40 and had no problems and no birth defects. The pregnancies were not medically aided in any way (no fertility treatments or drugs). Interestingly enough, all husbands were younger than their wives so maybe this had something to do with it (studies have shown that the father's age matters as much as the mother's).

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
