The odd thing is women had babies in their 40's years ago

The odd thing is that women had babies in their 40's years ago (when they'd have 12 children from age 15 to 45) when it was a lot more dangerous! It isn't anything new!

I must admit that I was terrified after he told me the outlook that the overall medical community has on women having babies in their 40's, but before leaving his office, he did tell me that "the oldest patient that he delivered a baby from was 48 and everything went just fine with her."

Jean, with 4 month old daughter now, born when I was 47.5, natural conception after multiple losses. I declined amnio. She's "normal".

I was 48 when I delivered Kayla and Megan and I did fine. I never got pregnancy induced hypertension or diabetes which we are suppose to be more at risk for in our forties, and I was carrying twins. I think over all I did really well despite my age.

I wish you luck on achieving a successful pregnancy. It does happen. We have delivered some 45+ women having successful pregnancies without assistance.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
