I turned 47 last October, a natural conception

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, April 09, 2006 | 0 comments

I'm delighted to be able to write an intro for our new daughter now. Alice was born 3-14-03, at 40 weeks gestation, via scheduled c-section, and weighed 8 lbs. She was a natural conception - I think we finally connected with the "last good egg" in my aging body. I turned 47 last October and still can hardly believe we managed to have a little one now.

He told me he had delivered 10 women in their 40's and the oldest was 48 and none had Down's children. I was so relieved that he was positive.

Anyway, we are leaving Thurs. to go for the vas rev. with Dr. Stanton in Conway, AR. He is a devout Christian Dr. (board certified urologist) who has 8 kids and a one year old (he is my age, 47, wife 46!).

You reminded me that I have an aunt (no blood relation, alas!) that had a baby 10 days before her 47th birthday. Her 13th, I might add! Thinking about her gives me hope, too!

One of my closest friends just got married for the first time at 44. Oddly, she found out she was pregnant one month before she turned 44, so they decided to get married.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
