I turned 45 years old & found out I was pregnant.

I turned 45 years old today. I found out on Saturday that I was pregnant. We have 2 sons in college, but were thrilled with the news, since we tried for another 7 years ago, but had an ectopic, then a miscarriage.

Also, there was a couple in our parish with a large age gap. She was in her early 40's at the time and he was 70ish. He had been a widow, and had grown children from his previous marriage. Shortly after they started TTC, she became pregnant and gave birth to a healthy daughter.

About two years later, I ran into this woman in the grocery store and she was expecting again. I had to stop and congratulate her, and that's when she told me "their" story. She went on to tell me that her DH had a vasectomy years ago, and after they had married, decided to get it reversed. They really didn't think it would work, due to his age. Well, two children later, it looks like it worked!

Mum had 2 MC's before having me at 40 and my brother at 44 (nearly 45). She is still with us at 86 and my brother and I turned out to be healthy normal children ( well healthy anyway.) Don't give up it can happen.

Just a thought: I had a discussion with a West African friend of mine (university professor here in DC), & we discussed women’s fertility. (I am 43 ttc #1) My friend said that it is very common for women in West Africa to bear children way into their forties and fifties! His own mother is an example; she had 13. I asked him what did he attribute the increased fertility to, & he said that, in his opinion, diet was KEY. In their country, people eat fresh fruits, vegetables, unprocessed/raw groundnuts (similar to our peanuts), fresh fish, unprocessed butter, & whole grains that are ground/pounded daily....even their meats are fresh: no steroids or chemicals pumped into them.

One of my grandmother's best friends had a baby in her fifties (naturally)! Her friend was gossiped about, but this last baby grew up, finished college, & took care of her in her old age...
