My OBGYN was concerned because I was 52y

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Thursday, January 12, 2006 | 0 comments

I'm Lily and I'm a very old mommy. I just turned 55 last month and have a 3 year old little girl. I also have one older daughter that is 25 and had her 1st baby, making me a Grandma. My husband is 56 and it is really hard having a baby so late in life, we were ready to just be grand parents and live out our life on the beach but by some miracle I became pregnant. My OBGYN was very concerned because of my age and I went through sooo many tests but I knew I was in a high risk because I was 52 at the time.

I gave birth to my son and only child at 44.5 years. I had never really wanted children or planned to have any. Then Gabriel came along - I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was in my 17th week. My entire life was turned upside down, but in a good way. My husband and I would like to try for another one (I'll be 46 in September). I agree with what Tricia wrote - don't let "them" tell you you're too old, can't have children, etc.

I'm now 45 - will be 46 in September. My son Gabriel will be a year old on March 25th. (The pregnancy went fine.) My husband wants to have another child. I was 41 when Katie's twin brothers were born and 44 when Katie arrived

At the ripe old age of 46 I am, happily, almost eight months pregnant with my second child.

Lisa Nilan understands that all too well. The 45-year-old Watertown resident gave birth to twins - Marisa and Michael - on Jan. 21 after 11 attempts at in vitro fertilization.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
