Answer to Mary Ann Samaha's prayers

There, at the centre of the screen, a tiny white speck no bigger than a grain of rice - the bud of a fetal spine - and the answer to Mary Ann Samaha's prayers.

"It's overwhelming to see it," Samaha says. "After all the heartache. I almost couldn't see it for myself. It seemed so unattainable at times."

After three years of trying to get pregnant, including five costly rounds of in vitro fertilization (IVF), two frozen embryo transfers- totalling more than $60,000 - Samaha finally has some good news.

At an ultrasound last week, the 43-year-old learned she's seven weeks pregnant.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
