May be one of the oldest here at 50

Well, you beat me! I'm 45, due December 30. It's our sixth pregnancy, and this would be our fourth child. I hope things work out well for you. But I have to laugh -- to think that people have given ME a bad time about "having my own grandchildren! - Jill

Hi, I think I may be one of the oldest here! I'll be 50 in September and have just discovered I'm pregnant. Bit of a surprise, especially as I have a Mirena IUD which was supposed to stop that kind of thing. Early days yet, and I know that the risks of not going to term are high, but I'm still feeling curiously hyper!

Husband is 62 and stunned(!); this will be #5 for him and #3 for me - the others are 30, 27, 16 (girls) and 12 (boy).

Have just been to see the doctor whose jaw nearly hit the table when I told her. She's taken some blood for testing which may help to indicate whether it's an ectopic pregnancy. She'll take the Mirena out and give me a scan tomorrow.

I live in Gibraltar, a tiny relic of the British Empire hanging off the south coast of Spain. We moved here about 18 months ago from the UK. Maybe it's one of the benefits(?) of the "Mediterranean Diet"!

I'd been thinking that it would be nice to have some babies around - but I wanted grandchildren! - Pen

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
