I gave birth 3 mths ago at 44

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, March 19, 2008 | 0 comments

I gave birth 3 months ago at age 44. The pregnancy went smoothly, and the delivery went well.

The baby is great, and my other kids (11,13,15) adore him. They are also a big help.

I had many of your concerns. I was really worried about whether the baby would be healthy. I did have an amnio, which made me feel much better. I was very reluctant to have a baby at my age and stage of life.

I was looking forward to starting the next stage of my life. Honestly, he has been absolutely wonderful. It is like God knew I needed someone else to love, when I didn't. I hug him and kiss him all day.

Well, I am 46, and will be 47 in August when my baby is born. Anyway...... you sound like one lucky lady to me!! I'd just love to have a husband to share all of this with !!!

I had identical twin boys at 44, and couldn't be having more fun! They will be 2 in June and are very busy boys.

I'm convinced they will keep me forever young. If you are healthy, there is no reason you won't be the perfect mother, and enjoy using your wisdom to bring up a wonderful new person.

I'll be 46 next Monday, and my fourth child will be delivered via c-section on May 2. I got pregnant without any intervention - no drugs, no IVF, my own eggs, after a fertility specialist told me that I had less than 1% chance of conceiving and carrying past 6 weeks.

I did have a miscarriage at 5 weeks 4 days, immediately prior to becoming pregnant with this child.

Just a word of encouragement about your fiance's age. My husband was 52 (almost 53) when our son was born (I was 44) and he couldn't be happier about being a dad at this age.

He is mature enough to really appreciate the whole thing, and he has been an amazing dad and a huge help to me. In fact, he loves it so much that we are trying for another -- and my husband is 55 (almost 56) now.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
