I had my 2nd child at 45

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, December 07, 2007 | 0 comments

I had my second child at 45, and also didn't want my grey hair showing. My OB said that colouring my hair was OK. (I get highlights and you could ask the colourist not to have the dye touch the scalp -- though I am sure none does). She said to just be in a well vented room.

I have absolutely heard of it! My cousin just had her 5th baby at age 44, and all was normal and fine. They didn't even need to monitor her closely as "high risk" or anything.

Also, (I know, this is so dumb, but I'm a reality show addict) on Project Runway, Laura is about your age (43) and having her 6th child with a 62 year old man!!

My grandmother had twins when she was 44 -- back in the day before there was medical intervention or prenatal vitamins.

My mom (accidentally) got pregnant at 43, had a miscarriage, and got pregnant (accidentally again) 2 months later. Two months after turning 44 she had a healthy baby boy.

I am 43 years old (turning 44 in 2 months, yikes) and almost 13 weeks pregnant (will be 44 and 5 months when born).

We did have 2 miscarriages earlier this year (blighted) which is to be expected. I don't have problems getting pregnant, just staying pregnant. Doc says egg supply. Said keep trying.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
