My mother was 48 years of age when I was born.

My grandmother was 93 when she died. She gave birth to her last child, my aunt, when she was almost 50.

I laugh when people say older women "don't have the energy" it takes to raise a child. But I come from a long line of women who birthed late (54 for one grandmother) and live dynamic lives.
I also go to the gym 5 days a week and have the 60 and ups kicking my butt in aerobics, Pilates and weight-lifting. At 42 when I groan getting up and down from the floor they tell me "Listen little girl you are way to young to be making those noises."

You raised an important question: if nature didn't intend for women over 40 to get pregnant, then why are women over 40 getting pregnant naturally?
My grandmother gave birth 3 times in her 40s - all 3 of them were "accidents", not planned or wanted. Had her last one at 45. I grew up believing it was normal for 40+ women to get pregnant.

If you've read my other posts recently, I spoke about a friend who delivers babies on a reservation and has lots of 40- and 50- something patients who definitely are not doing DE (donor egg)!
There are also women in religious communities of all kinds (Catholic, Jewish Orthodox, Hutterite) who defy the bio-clock statistics and just keep having babies until they can't anymore, cause they choose not to use contraception. They also aren't doing DE.
