Sarah Catharine was a 48y widow with an 8m baby

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, April 23, 2007 | 0 comments

Sarah Catharine was a 48-year-old widow [in 1882] with an 8-month-old baby, a 5-year old, a 12-year-old, a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old, and an 18-year-old. She had children older than that who certainly helped out the widow woman and her children, and she was surrounded by family -- both hers and her late husband's. Still, she was a 48-year-old widow with an 8-month-old baby in the dead of winter in the corn-belt of Indiana.

I would have like it to be a bit sooner - my first is 6 now and #2 is due next month, and I turned 44 last week.

I'm still considering the motherhood goal....after all, my mom was pregnant at 48, so I have good breeding genetics going for me.

I had a friend who got pregnant at 48, much to her chagrin, as all her other kids were grown up.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
