51 & pregnant!

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, April 27, 2007 | 0 comments

51 and pregnant! To say that it's a shock is really a minor name for the way I'm feeling. This is an unplanned pregnancy, to be honest I thought my baby making days were behind me.

My aunt was 51 when she had her 5th baby. The baby has Down's Syndrome, but she is a healthy 8 year old now and attends regular school.

My mom is 46, and had my little brother 3 years ago. She says it's harder than what she remembers, but wouldn't change it for anything.

I turned 44 on Saturday the 20th... Happy birthday to us 44 year olds! I just had baby #6 on Aug 5th.... It was also pregnancy #7 as I miscarried last Sept... Sounds like we have a lot in common! It is different with our age and they will treat you different too! Ultrasound techs and docs... because of your age...etc...

I am 49, and just found out I am pregnant - and did not try to become pregnant! In fact, I thought I was starting menopause, and that was why my periods stopped. So, now all I can do is hope that all goes well. Believe me, the hardest part was telling my husband and family (children are in their 20s, teens, and one 11 year old). Although I thought the next baby I'd hold would be a grandchild, I am very excited at this pleasant surprise.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
