I am currently 21w pregnant & 45

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, May 12, 2008 | 3 comments

It will happen! I am currently 21 weeks pregnant and am 45!! And we don't expect this one to be our last either.

My husband's grandmother was 52 when her last was born --- in her generation (before Birth Control) women regularly got pregnant in their 40's and 50's so how can we be any different?

I think "sad" statistics are based upon the fact that most women aren't **trying** for babies in their 40's --- I don't think the statistics show they CAN'T get pregnant -- just that they aren't trying!!!

Thanks gals - I just have to learn to put the blinders on, and get stronger.

My grandmother on my mother's side had her last at 46!

I am 45 and 12 weeks pregnant now. I'm doing pretty good. No one (with the exception of one strange lady at church yesterday) has said anything to me about my age...... The doctor never raised an eyebrow, the midwife never even asked me my age...... My 70 year old mom never said anything.

Honestly, I don't think it's that big of a deal anymore to most. You can do it!!!! Maybe some of us need a little jumpstart in some areas, or have some special "needs" but don't let anyone convince you that you are too old to have babies!!! That's bogus.

Count me in for success in the over 40's club. I'm 44 and 19 weeks pregnant. We conceived naturally....... With a lot of careful planning, and temperature taking of course.... And reading up all the things which may help.

Hello! I just wanted to pop in with some encouragement and positive news for my sisters TTC [trying to conceive] in their 40's.

I just learned that my great-grandmother, who had 10 children, gave birth to her last child at age 46! My aunt just told me because I was talking to her about TTC now in my 30's, thinking I waited too late...... But she filled me in on some family history I didn't know.

My great-grandmother had all of her children in her 30's and 40's. I think that is absolutely fantastic -- especially since we are talking about a woman born in the late 1800's.

Another interesting fact I learned was that she was a mid-wife in her community and herbal healer. Amazing news for me to learn, and just at the right time too. We have to stay positive on our TTC journey, and remember that time is just linear and that everyone is marching to their own drum beat!!!!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.

    Congratulations!

You conceived when you were 45?

Not much further to go. Enjoy the ride.

So true about the stats. Most women in their 40's not only aren't 'trying', but there are many abortions taking place.

Many women go with what their doctors say, go straight to IVF and don't give their bodies the chance to conceive on their own without drugs, so we'll never know how many women in their 40's conceived and gave birth without drugs.

    Congratulations!

Conceiving a viable pregnancy at 45 is quite common, I see!
