I'm 46 & just had my baby 17 days ago

I *was* going to a menopausal support group, when I figured out that I probably could still get pregnant. So hubby and I decided to go for it, if it happened good, if it didn't then that was okay too. I'm 46, and just had my baby girl 17 days ago. Just regular getting pregnant.

Pregnant at 45 yrs old, on 2nd cycle of Clomid, my own egg & according to Doctor & midwives, having a "perfect pregnancy" so far (now 30 weeks) - I am convinced a de-tox 3 weeks before conceiving did the trick for us! All tests came back OK (Amniocentesis at 16 weeks & 20 week diagnostic scan). This is my first baby.

I heard there's a woman at our office that got pregnant at 46 by accident!!!! And it's her first child. Stories like that keep me thinking it's not impossible. The stats are so grim, I refuse to read them anymore.

On the subject of babies born naturally to women in their mid/late 50's, I believe this could have happened countless times through history. I have returned the book to the library now, but perhaps one of the ladies here has a copy of 'Birth Begins at 40'?

I'm sure there were several case study accounts in that of mothers becoming pregnant when they were going through menopause. Some women can have periods well in to their 50's (my own mother being one), so surely it must be possible for women who are menstruating, to also ovulate in their 50's?

“Older couples trying to get pregnant run a high risk of failure, so my main concern is that they get through the process whole,” says Machelle Seibel of the Fertility Center of New England.

His DE success stories include, clockwise from bottom left: Beth Strubeck, 47; Douglas and Adam Strubeck, 47 and 4; Charles Volz, 48; Eileen and C.J. Volz, 50 and 2; Paul Craffey, 45; Kathleen and Mary Katherine Vignolo, 46 and 2 month; John and Bryan Sabbag, 49 and 3; Carol and Lauren Sabbag, 49 and 3.

Catherine

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
