I'm 47 & pregnant for the 6th time.

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, January 26, 2007 | 0 comments

I'm 47 and pregnant for the 6th time. I have four children from my first marriage (I miscarried in my second pregnancy, which occurred between my first and second child). I'm now in my second marriage, and this pregnancy, as with some of you, took us by surprise. I've just turned 12 weeks, and am scheduled for CVS testing in two days.

I'm really nervous, hoping everything is well. The weird thing...maybe you can relate to this...my other children are all adults, except for one who nearly is.

According to my doctor, he is seeing MANY more women over the age of 40 who are choosing to have babies -- and he says most of these women have very satisfying pregnancies and healthy babies. My advise to you is -- Don't believe all of the doom and gloom stories that you will hear about later in life pregnancies and find a Maternal Fetal Specialist that specializes in older moms.

Do not be afraid, I work in the medical field and I seen women at the age of 52 and not taking care of them selves and pregnant. And they have healthy pregnancies.

I am 47 years old, pregnant and just sent my youngest child off to her second year of college. My new husband and I have been married 15 months. We already have five children between us.

I've just found out I'm pregnant and, provided the baby's on time, I'll just sneak in at 44 and not reach 45. I'm absolutely terrified!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
