She got pregnant, with her 1st child, at 52
[My mom] just got back from 6 months in Portugal, and there she ran into old friends she hadn't seen in years. They got talking, and she revealed what had happened with me, last year and one of her friends, whom everyone had always assumed had never had kids, told her that she got pregnant, with her first child, at 52!
She lost him/her at 4 months gestation, but the point here is that she was 52, no drugs, no intervention (we're talking a small village in Europe 25 years ago) and it happened after YEARS of thinking it never would.

The other story is happier - apparently a friend from a neighbouring village not only got pregnant, but delivered a healthy baby girl 10 years ago at the tender age of 50! She too had thought she was to remain childless.

My sister's ex-mother-in-law had her youngest daughter at 50! Perfectly healthy! That is why it is hard for me to give up hope.

When I was 44 1/2 years old I went to see an RE with my husband. He told us that he couldn't do anything for us except with donor eggs, and that our chances of conceiving were less than 3%. We were stunned.
I walked back into his office one month later for a blood test that confirmed that I was indeed pregnant the old fashioned way. I gave birth to my first child, a healthy girl, nine months later at the ripe old age of 45.
I will never forget the look on that doc's face as I left his office that day. He looked up at me through the glass and shook his head in astonishment.

My OB says she has delivered MANY women in the 44-45-46 age range. A friend of mine was born when her mother was 46 (her mother thought she had a tumor!). It DEFINITELY can happen.
