She was born on her mom's 50th birthday!

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, November 01, 2006 | 0 comments

My hairdresser told me last week that she made an appearance on her mom's 50th birthday! Her brother was in medical school when she came on the scene! Can you imagine?

I'm 44 with #6 on the way! We have a daughter 17, girl/boy twins 9, son 5, and son 3. We won't be telling anyone, including our kids for awhile. I'm really excited, but scared too. Hoping for a normal, healthy baby as I'm sure everyone is, it's just so scary looking at the stats for my age.

My sister-in-law, however, was 46 [with her last child], and they have a wonderful, healthy, almost 5 year old!

And, to top it off....she was never suppose to be able to have any children at all!!! She had lung cancer as a teen and with all her treatment and 'whatever' they told her she would never be able to conceive. Her first child got written up in all the medical journals! A miracle child! Then, 11 years later...they had child #2. Then, 11 years later....they had child #3! God does amazing things!

I am going to a shower this week of a friend who conceived at age 45 and will deliver in two weeks at age 46. Her FSH was normal, she cycled at Cornell (IUI with stims) had three previous pregnancies end in miscarriage. Just a note - not a donor egg baby, this is her own from an IUI. Lucky!

I'm Sherry, 45 year old mom [of a] 6 month old baby girl. I'm enjoying every minute of being a mom. Well, except the sleepless nights. We are currently working on getting her to go to sleep on her own.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
