Several friends have had babies at 39, 40, & 45!

I had baby #7 at age 39 and I'm pregnant again at 42. I have several friends who have had babies at 39, 40, & 45! My sister-in-law had her first at age 43. Michelle Duggar had #16 at age 39.

I do not think it's rare to have a baby at 40+, just discouraged. Make sure you are healthy and have a positive attitude, and lots of prayer...that certainly helps!

RTE broadcaster Miriam O'Callaghan welcomed the eighth addition to her family on Tuesday. She and husband Steve Carson, an independent documentary producer, welcomed the arrival of a seven-pound baby boy, who joins his siblings, aged from three to 17.

The Irish Independent reports that the 45-year-old said, "They say that fertility zooms down after 35 and some girls are giving up, but I believe that if you keep healthy and eat well, there is no reason why you can't go on".

I'm wondering if anyone knows if family history/genetics are influential in your ability to conceive. I'm 40, the age my mom was when she had me (btw - she had 4 of her 5 kids after she was 35) and my grandma was 45 when she gave birth to my mom (both naturally).

I'm trying not to get too encouraged by my family history, but I am curious.

My father’s mother had 15 kids -- her last was at age 60. His father was already 63 when my dad was born (and he wasn’t the youngest child).

I can't see it happening very often anymore--- but some people really just love kids!

I became pregnant at 44 and delivered a perfect baby girl at 45, with absolutely no complications. Sure, there are risks, but it's much more important to focus on the positive side.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
