She was 58 when she gave birth to her 4th kid

My ex-husband's mom was 58 when she Gave birth to her (4th kid). That's when she kicked papa out of the bedroom and made him sleep in the guest room for the rest of their lives.

It was the same kind of deal with my grandma -- she was the last of 13 kids. She was born in 1899. I think she had older brothers and sisters she didn't know at all or at least not too well.

You're not technically "in menopause" till there has been no period for a year. Even then, I've heard of at least one woman who got pregnant when she had had no periods in five years!

I went out to a movie and dinner with my mother-in-law and her friend, who is 84. She asked me about my baby and I told her I had just miscarried. Anyway, she told me not to give up hope. She had problems getting pregnant and had something done to her tubes when she was 40.

Anyway, she went on to have 4 babies AFTER the age of 40, all conceived naturally and all were perfectly normal and healthy. I told her to rub my arm to give me some of that fertility luck.

And just for the record.... I have a friend who got pregnant on her first IVF try when she was 43 (she had the baby at 44) and she had high FSH (in the late 20s) and had not had a period for 4 months at a time before going into the IVF. And not only did she get pregnant but she still have frozen embryos. And she very definitely had a live birth - in fact, the boy is 6 months now and walking!!!!!!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
