My grandmom had her last at 47

I wasn't around then...but my grandmom had her last at 47. My Aunt Hope was quite a surprise (the next oldest would have been 6 at the time). And she's the prettiest one of the whole bunch.

The oldest woman to get pregnant and have a healthy baby, that I knew personally, was my friend Jan's mom. She had a set of twins at the age of 45 back in 1965.... naturally and without any assistance. Jan was not one of the twins, she was a few years older.

My mother's friend had one at 47 and the baby is now a horrible teenager! No deterioration of genetic material whatsoever.

My mom told me this was not so unusual in the days when folks had big families. It was not unusual for women to have a last baby at 50, it is a FIRST one at 40-45 that is odd.

My Dad had nieces and nephews older than he was. His oldest brother was born in 1896 and he didn't come along until 1921. Same Mom. Same Dad. No $45,000 worth of treatments. Just Catholic.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
