My mother was born when my grandmother was 44

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Saturday, August 05, 2006 | 0 comments

My mother was born when my grandmother was 44, I was born when my mother was 34 and my father was 40, and at 37 1/2 I am trying for #2. My husband was born when his mom was 36. Despite our parents, we turned out wonderfully (a doctor and a lawyer no less). Everyone will love the baby irrespective of your age.

I have a friend who was 45 when she had her second child, 18 years after her 1st child, and I have a cousin that was over 40 when she had her 1st child. She and her husband tried for over 20 years to get pregnant. Chrystal

My mother had 20 pregnancies and her last was at age 45. So don't let anyone tell you your age is too old to have a child.

I recently heard a co-worker say she knows of a woman, 47 years old, who is having her first baby.

I met a bright, beautiful girl the other day. She was 23 years old and working on her MBA. She was the 16th child of 16 children! Same mother and father! Her dad was 72 years old when she was born and her mom was 56 years old! Everyone told her mom she should abort that baby. Her mom felt if God wanted her to have it, then she would. She was blessed with a beautiful, intelligent, wonderful daughter!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
