Recently I heard of someone giving birth at 49.

I think if you are not over 46, your chances are good. I have heard of several women conceiving at that age. 48 is harder. However, recently I have heard of someone giving birth at 49.

Here is some hope. My friend conceived at 45 years old and delivery when she was 46. She wasn't even trying.

Nancy, who lives in Northern Virginia, had a daughter at 44 after four miscarriages. "It took a cutting-edge treatment and a boatload of drugs," she says.

First of all, I did it the "old-fashioned way"! No drugs, no surrogate, just a good 'ole romp in the hay! I know I am one of the fortunate ones - got pregnant on my honeymoon at 41, and again during a family trip to Disney at 45; SURPRISE!

But, my mom had me at 40, and my grandma had her last at 46 - just a bunch of fertile chicks! Two generations ago, a LOT of women had "change-of-life" babies before the pill.

My own mother was in picture perfect physical health at the age of 43 when she gave birth to her last child

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
