Pregnant at 44, my own eggs & donor sperm.

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Saturday, April 22, 2006 | 0 comments

While I'm not at all out of the woods at 8 weeks 2 days, I am pregnant at age 44. First IVF attempt. My own eggs and donor sperm.

I should also have mentioned that an elderly relative of mine -- she's 102! -- has a daughter my brother's age: 55! So, born in 1950 -- as natural as it was unexpected. She's the youngest of 7 and there is some question whether that makes a difference, but what the heck? (I wasn't very clear -- the daughter is 55, conceived when the mother was 47.)

A friend of mine got her first child when she was 40 and her second child when she was 45. She got pregnant one more time, when she was 47 but then she had miscarriage. The child she got when she was 45 was naturally conceived - and not even planned!! So there is still hope for many of us...

I just read of a woman 47 who conceived twins naturally on the "Mothers over 40" site

I am 44 and just delivered boy/girl twins in Feb. I used my own eggs, although only given a 10% chance of success, it worked the first cycle. My miracle babies, Evan and Samantha are 11 weeks old and I am sooooooooo happy that I did this just in the nick of time!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
