A lady 56 here where I lived had twins not too long ago, and if she can do it, we certainly can right????

When I started 'serious' TTC, my role model (if you will) was a woman who tried umpteen injection cycles (no IUI), and got a chemical pregnancy almost every month. She was about to quit, right before her 46th birthday, and tried one more cycle, even though the FSH # that month was not ideal. Bam - a son. Her story did more to impress me and to keep me going in the hard times we had early on than anything else

My maternal grandmother was 40 at the birth of her last child and lived to be 91. Her sister was 43 at the birth of her last and lived to 93 1/2.

My mom was 44 when I was born, she's 74 this year and still kicking.

My grandmother was 42 when she had her last child and she lived to 93. I would think that the correlation probably has more to do with good genes. Good genes are more likely to lead to fertility at a later age and a longer life span.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
