I am 49 and 7 weeks pregnant. I am so astounded that this could happen! I have only been having 2-3 periods per year for the past 3 years. I even had hot flushes. I went to a country wedding where I met up with a lot of old high school mates and what with the alcohol, high spirits and so on, I ended up spending the night with my high-school sweetheart. He's as surprised as I am.

There are a lot of ladies your age [49] that have normal pregnancies. I know a little about how you feel because my mother is always telling me how freaked she was when she found out she was pregnant with me going into menopause .

I'm 47 and pregnant for the sixth time (the child was conceived naturally). I have four children from my first marriage, ages 16-22. If it helps, when I was in my 8th week (I'm now in my 9th), I had an ultrasound and a good fetal heartbeat was detected and everything was right on target.

I have a family friend who had her first 2 children at 47 and 49 and they're perfect! This should be a time of happiness - don’t let a doctor put a damper on this moment!
