Her first baby naturally at age 44

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Saturday, February 11, 2006 | 0 comments

A friend of mine told me on Friday that a friend of hers had her first baby naturally last week at age 44, so there is hope and her husband is only 28. I know of another friend of a friend that went through IVF and conceived at 43 and now she is trying again.

[My husband] and I had tried for so long and decided to have one more go at IVF. Nine days before my 41st birthday I gave birth to my son and daughter. Now I'm pregnant again from a FET and when my babies are born I'll be 44, yep babies, twins again.

My best friend who lives in Toronto had her son at 40 and is pregnant with #2 at 43.

I was 40 when we started and 42 when my daughter was born. and will be just 45 when number 2 arrives. My husband will be 49.

My mother had 4 children in 5 years, tried for a 5th and bang! It happened but after 12 years!! She was 44, no idea why it took so long, unlike us she didn't have any tests for anything. It just happened. So as long as your heart is still in it and you still have your periods, I say go for it.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
