Child at 53 - "Stay away from new lovers during menopause!"

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, February 14, 2006 | 0 comments

A woman at one of my workshops said she had a child at 53, three years after her last period. To our wail of outrage and surprise, she laughed and advised: "Stay away from new lovers during menopause!"

When I was 42, I had a fsh reading of 16 and the RE told me the same depressing information. But I got pregnant a few months later, had a miscarriage, then got pregnant again and delivered my beautiful, healthy son about a month before my 44th birthday. He is now 16 months old.

My brother was born the day before I turned 24. My mom was 44 and my dad was 47. They were very worried about my mom's and the baby's health, but everything turned out fine.

My Grandmother was 46 when she had my uncle, he is 6 years older than I am. She had gone through her change of life & was expecting to hear that she was very ill, not that she was pregnant. My Grandfather passed out in the doctors office. I think that she enjoyed having my uncle when she did.

I am almost 44 and just found out I am pregnant with my 9th child. My kids are 25, 23, 21, 18, 13, 11,7,and 4. We also have 3 grandchildren.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
