44y, one ovary, 12 failed cycles of IVF - Pregnant!

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Saturday, January 07, 2006 | 1 comments

My friend of 44 with one ovary and 12 failed cycles of IVF fell pregnant after being diagnosed as infertile.

My grandmother had her last 3 children after she turned 40. And, she of course wasn't "helped" by any fertility treatments, I don't even think those were available back then.

After many miscarriages we FINALLY conceived our son when I was just shy of my 46th birthday... so you see, I had not only age but also multiple miscarriages as challenges.

We went to Paris and about 3 weeks after we got back we found out I was pregnant. I was 44 years old and had a nearly perfect pregnancy and at 40 weeks had c-section (baby never dropped) and came home with a beautiful baby girl who is now 18 months.

Just found out today that a friend of mine from high school is pregnant with her first at age 42. She is 13 weeks. Naturally with no help. Also her mother was 46 when she had her.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
