Her passport shows that she's 125, and she says she last gave birth a mere 46 years ago, at the tender age of 79.
If true, she has beaten the previous record holder by almost a decade. Some critics, however, have thrown doubts on her story, suggesting her documents possibly don't offer the whole truth.
Possible in theory
Ulya Margusheva is an ethnic Kabardin from the Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria in the North Caucasus. Long-lifer Ulya says she doesn't eat anything sweet or salty, and she hates bananas.
Her story becomes all the more fascinating with the revelation the woman gave birth to her only child when she was 79.
I explain it by the fact she lives in an ecologically-safe environment. She's a healthy woman herself,said Maria Tembotova, the republic's chief obstetrician.
And despite the fact she got married late, she had a healthy lifestyle. So it is possible in theory.
Journalists investigate
So far a Japanese woman lays claim to the record as the oldest mother to give birth. If Ulya really is the true world record holder, why is she enjoying so little publicity?
Two documents, her passport, and her child's birth certificate make it quite clear: Ulya was born in 1884 and her child was born 79 years later. Ulya explains:
Yes, I gave birth to my child naturally. No cesarean section. A nurse at the hospital told me when I was checking out with a child: 'Oh! What a poor woman!'

Baby Meagan was born at the Medical Centre Leeuwarden at 9.48am [7.48pm AEDT] on March 21,a statement on the website of the hospital in the northern Dutch province of Friesland said on Monday.
Meagan is the daughter of Tineke Geessink, a 63-year-old woman from Harlingen.
The girl was born with the aid of caesarean section, the statement said.
Both mother and daughter are fine.
Dutch media reports said Ms. Geessink was the oldest Dutch woman to become a mother.
It is a feeling that I have had for so long [to have a child],the woman told Dutch public radio NOS.
At some point there was something inside me saying: 'It's now or never', and I decided to try everything possible to see if it is still possible.
NOS said the woman fell pregnant through a foreign sperm donor as Dutch fertility doctors would not help her due to her age.
There is no guarantee that if you have a child at a young age you will see your child grow up,Ms. Geessink, a single mother, told the radio.
Of course, the risk with me is bigger. And whether the child will find it nice to have such an old mother ... I hope that she loves me so much that she will just be glad to have me.

Before her unexpected pregnancy, Ms. Becker says, she was absorbed by her career and rarely gave motherhood much thought.
The birth of a son almost 10 months ago altered the course of her life, as well as her relationship with a man 11 years younger, she says.
Although they were happy together, they had no long-term commitment,
so the pregnancy definitely made a big impact.
Her partner, a full-time student, was
stunnedby the news, she adds, but he quickly adjusted to fatherhood after the baby was born.
He's crazy in love with this kid.

My friend had her first baby at 45 tears old, conceived without medical assistance.
A relative of my husband was the oldest woman ever to give birth at our local maternity hospital aged 49, again conceived naturally.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
One of my college roommates had her one and only baby quite late….
A result of waiting for the right moment to come, as well as unfortunate circumstances...
She is now almost 50 years old, and her daughter is 4 1/2 years old...
Technically she is old enough to be a grandmother!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
My mother had her last healthy baby at 45 years old, and her last pregnancy at 47 years old!
I have friends who had babies in their 40s - one started at 42 years old, and had three babies, one year after the other (all normal and healthy).
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I am 43 years old and am 35 weeks pregnant with our first child.
I was quite fit and healthy at the beginning of the pregnancy, and this has stayed with me throughout.
On the scale of things, I have had a lovely pregnancy so far: just occasional nausea in the first trimester, one night of acid reflux in the second trimester, and a week of leg cramps in the third trimester.
I am as anxious as any other first-timer but more grounded than ever before in myself.
I love my husband and we're both delighted to be having a baby. His support means everything right now.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I don't think you are old at 43 years old.
My God, my friend's mum had her last baby at 55 years old, and that is the honest truth.
She had a beautiful baby girl, and both of them were very healthy.
Then my younger friend had a Down Syndrome baby, and she was only 20 years old when her baby was born.
So please, I really don’t believe in this **** about the older you are, the sicker your child can be.

Shortly after their 22nd wedding anniversary, she found out she was pregnant for the first time.
She was 45 years old.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I do have one friend who claims to have had IVF [in vitro fertilization] success with her own eggs at 48 years old!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I personally know one close friend, as well as one acquaintance who both got pregnant with IVF at 43 years old, and delivered a beautiful baby girl each at 44 years old.
I know my friend got pregnant on her first try.
Her baby is now about 5 months old, and she is gearing up to try again at 44 years old.
The other acquaintance also got pregnant at 43 years old with IVF.
I don't know as much about her story, but, from what I understand, she also got pregnant on the first try with IVF.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A girlfriend of mine had had two horrible miscarriages (one was at 5 months, and she nearly bled to death).
Then, after seeing an acupuncturist and taking herbs, she got pregnant and gave birth at 43 years old!
She has a beautiful healthy daughter, and it was all natural!
oldermothers is only unique by our modern standards.
I recently looked up old census records only to discover women in the mid to late 1800s continued to have children well into their late 40s and early 50s!
Apparently, they had babies right up until menopause.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My mother was 46 years old when she had me
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please also keep in mind any mother who is healthy enough to conceive/carry a pregnancy to term at an older age has a much greater likelihood of having the genes to help her live longer, particularly if it is conceived with her own egg.
Research studies have show those women often live to over 100 years old.
By the way, I gave birth to my biological baby at age 45, my parents are in their 80s and healthy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had a daughter at 19 years old, and I was in labor for 18 hours.
I was pregnant at 44 years old (unbeknownst to all of us), and he popped out in about 20 minutes.
Much easier later in life!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My parents married at 27 years old, and quickly had three children.
When my mother was in her 40s, and going thru menopause, she got pregnant with me.
My siblings are much older than me, they were getting married and going off to fight the Vietnam war as I was just starting kindergarten.
This past Sunday, while shopping at WalMart, I ran into a girl whom I had gone to high school with.She was eight months pregnant with her second baby, and she is 47 years old...
We chatted for a few minutes, and I found she had a son who was five years old and was due in four weeks with this baby.
There is hope everywhere...
I think we all need to hear the good more so than the bad society and the medical profession tends to throw at us.
Now we are actively preventing a reoccurrence.
We consider ourselves to be very lucky people for it to happen so easily...
My mom was 43 years old when she became pregnant with my youngest brother.
Of course, she was already beginning menopause, she had not had her period for several months.
So when she got pregnant she didn't even realize it.
I'm 46 years old and expecting my fourth child on May 2nd.
I conceived with no medical intervention, although I did miscarry immediately prior to conceiving this child.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
My c-section is scheduled for five weeks from today. I'm ready.
It's been a fairly easy pregnancy, but I'm ready for it to be over.
My back is starting to ache a bit.
I turned 46 years old a couple of weeks ago, so I guess if an occasionally achy back is the only complaint I've got, then I'm doing OK.
