World's oldest mothers

An Indian woman is thought to have become the world's oldest mother at the age of 70 following fertility treatment.
Rajo Devi gave birth to a baby girl on November 28, taking over the title of world's oldest mother from a 67-year-old Spanish woman who had twins in 2006.

Here is a list of some of the world's oldest mothers.

:: Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara, 66, (2006) gave birth to twin sons at a hospital in Barcelona. She admitted lying to doctors about her age in order to receive fertility treatment. Her decision to become a mother so late in life was branded "selfish and irresponsible" by her family. Less than a year later, she was diagnosed with cancer.

:: Adriana Iliescu gave birth to a daughter at a hospital in Bucharest, Romania on January 16, 2005, at the age of 66. Ms Iliescu originally underwent fertility treatment for nine years before becoming pregnant. The girl was born prematurely by Caesarean section after her twin sister died in the womb.

:: Satyabhama Mahapatra, from Nayagarh, Orissa, India, became the world's oldest mother when she gave birth to a son on April 9 2003, at the age of 65. The baby was a combination of an egg from the woman's 26-year-old niece, and the sperm of her niece's husband.

:: Papathiammal Subramaniam, 64, gave birth to a test tube baby in India in 2004, becoming one of the world's oldest first-time mothers. She went through menopause around 20 years before, so doctors used the donated egg of a 30-year-old relative with the husband's sperm.

:: Patricia Rashbrook, 62, of Lewes, East Sussex, gave birth to her son JJ in 2006, receiving IVF treatment from the same fertility expert who Rosanna Della Corte consulted, Severino Antinori. She already had three children, 26, 22 and 18, from her first marriage, but her second husband became a father from the first time.

:: Rosanna Della Corte, 62, of Canino, Italy gave birth to a son in 1994 - Riccardo's birth through IVF in 1994 prompted outrage. The Vatican called it an affront to God, although the fuss has largely died down. He was born out of grief caused when her first-born, also called Riccardo, died aged 17 in a motorbike accident.

:: Janise Wulf, a 62-year-old old great-grandmother from Redding, California gave birth to her 12th child in 2006. Deliver by Caesarean section, it was conceived through IVF. Wulf's oldest child at the time was 40, their youngest 3. She also had 20 grandchildren three great-grandchildren.

:: Liz Buttle, of Wales, had a baby aged 61 in 1997 after telling doctors she was 49. Mrs Buttle, a widow, gave birth to son Joe after receiving treatment at the London Fertility Centre in Harley Street. At the time she already had a 41-year-old daughter, Belinda, and three grandchildren.
