The shock of hearing "You're pregnant" at 43

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, March 04, 2008 | 0 comments

Hi everyone, I am new here. I married my husband in June 2, 2006. September 3, 2006 I got pregnant after 17 years of being told I would never be able to get pregnant. Well, the doctors was Oh, so wrong!

We did not want to have children. Well, let's face it, our children are raised. My husband has 5 daughters, and I have a son and 2 daughters.

Well, after the shock of hearing the words "You're pregnant", and my husband almost passing out LOL! (Now it's funny). We got use to it, and were very happy. My husband said he wanted a boy! ( He is 51, and I was 43, now 44)

I am 45, and 12 weeks pregnant with #6 right now. I don't post on here because quite honestly there just isn't a lot of traffic. There are several of us over 40 and pregnant in the other areas of this forum.

I have been pleasantly surprised this time too that I have not had ONE person say anything at all to me about my age (well, with the exception of the one wierdo at church yesterday but I will not include her here)

The doctor never said a word, my midwife didn't even ask my age --- my 70 year old mom never said a word!!!!! It's not such a biggie anymore, really!!

This over 40 section has had alot of grads... Did Terryann confirm her latest pregnancy? If so, it's Terryann (46), yourself, Csmiles (45), Angushicks, Teeroze, Cagardengirl (44), typinggirl, Loulou, Heatherv8, Mely( 41) Issacsmommy (41), that have BFP's [big fat positive - positive pregnancy test].

It's a good ratio for over 40's. If you run into others, send'em over here to give us inspiration.

You never do know... I know two women who got pregnant at 54. The second one was the new wife of a friend of my parents'. The groom was 70-something.

Thought I'd share... I was at our son's baseball game last night, and was talking with another mom. Her daughter just got married last summer, and she had a miscarriage at Christmas. Her hubby is 25. His mom is prego!!! She's 46, but will be 47 when the baby is born! Her youngest child is 14.

The mom sharing also informed me of a lady at there church who was 46, and just had another baby...

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
