Moms in the 44 to 47 age range

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, March 16, 2008 | 0 comments

I agree age in itself is not a problem, what makes a pregnancy high risk are the things that you mentioned. I have moms in the 44 to 47 age range that do not have any of these conditions.. Most women that seek a midwife are concerned about health, and they do what’s needed to have a safe healthy birth. -- Del

It was MOST interesting that when I was pregnant at 48, a dear old longtime friend who lives near me was ALSO pregnant at 48! We delivered 3 weeks apart! Something in the water around here or what????

Concieved shortly before my 48th birthday, and delivered at 48 1/2. I had my good old faithful (lay) midwife provided 98% of my prenatal care.

My OB [obstetrician] was fine with not seeing me (OR encouraging any tests I did not want).

I am now 52, and not at all sure I may not concieve again! (If I do, fine, if I don't, fine as well.)

I had a very difficult miscarriage in October. Now.........

I am 5 weeks pregnant at 44! I am trying not to worry. I know that God is in full control of what I can not be.

Delivered my last baby in summer 2003 at the ripe of 48 1/2. Shocked (She was naturally conceived, but a surprise.)

Rosemary does have Down Syndrome, but that is no big deal. (We didn't know beforehand, BUT at 48, the possibility of a genetic problem DOES cross your mind a few times.)

So now, I'm 52, still cycling, and laughing sometimes about another baby.

Catherine

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
