My 2nd daughter was conceived at 45

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, February 19, 2008 | 0 comments

I had my first daughter at 43, after years of failed IVF's [in-vitro fertilization] and miscarriages. My second daughter was conceived when I was 45...

I'm now 46, and she's 9 weeks old. Both pregnancies were OK - no worse than any of my friends', better than many. But yes, the second one was more tiring!

Hello - had my son, now 6 months old - at 44 - I am now 45 years old.

I did find pregnancy very tiring, no major problems. I am loving being a mum though.

I'm JulieAnn, 47, surprise first-time mom to Gabriel ,who will be 3 in March. I can totally relate to Debbie, in that I never wanted kids either. I found out I was pregnant after going in for a recheck after being treated for a bad case of pneumonia, for which I had numerous x-rays and was prescribed strong antibiotics. Little did anyone know at the time that I was pregnant! Gabriel was definitely meant to be here.

I had never planned to have children. My husband of 25 years always wanted kids, but he knew if we both weren't onboard with the idea the child would suffer, so he didn't push the issue. I was 17 weeks along when I found out I was expecting (irregular menstrual cycles and no morning sickness left me without a clue!).

Aside from pretty massive swelling in the ankles and hands and gestational diabetes, my pregnancy went well. I think the doctors were more concerned about my pregnancy than I was.

I had never been pregnant, and after trying for a year age 43 we did two rounds of IVF [in-vitro fertilization] when I was 44. Neither of these worked even though I had good embryos on first round.

My acupuncturist who is a trained Chinese herbalist persuaded me to try the vile herbs and after 5 months I fell pregnant naturally (also did yoga and used PreSeed) with my darling daughter Amber, who was born 9 days after my 46th birthday in November 2006.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
