I had my 10th baby at age 45. When my husband was called up for the war I delivered at an army hospital. They tested me for everything and I never had soooo many papers to fill out, saying I was informed about all the things that could go wrong.
I am happy with all my children and my last baby is a fine healthy girl. Having this baby made me healthier, because some new little person now depended on me.
After the birth, I lost weight and feel years younger. You'll never know unless you're open to the new experience what life will bring you. Don't let anyone scare you, because you're older and wiser than you were 20 years ago.

Just found out I'm pregnant at 46 for the first time. I'm going to get a blood test to confirm (although 2 at home tests said I was pregnant), then take it from there. My mom had me when she was 40, nearly 41, and she said I was the easiest to have. I'm praying that all goes that way with me, too.

I got pregnant with my darling daughter who is upstairs sleeping on my 5th and last IVF. I was 45 and 1 month when conceived and 45 and 10m when delivered. I used my own eggs and PGD. I was at Cornell i had low FSH-3.7, did acupuncture and was a good responder - unusually so for our age -- got 20-28 eggs each time.
Last transfer 2 were normal after PGD, including one that was questionable but we transferred anyway. I had my first daughter at 43 with IUI at Cornell. Everyone told me I was crazy to keep going, even my husband was on the fence but I knew in my heart I had to try one more time to close the door before we went to adoption.
I believe each person knows in their own heart when to stop trying and pursue different avenues. I was careful in who I discussed IVF with. Hope this gives someone hope!!

Don't you love the attitude's that people can get about a middle aged pregnant woman when it has nothing to do with them LOL!! I think that medicine makes us worry so much. My mom was 40 when she had me and I am just fine and my husband's mother was 45, and father was 47, when he was born and he is a physician and very bright. We were both very healthy and lucky to have parents that were mature enough to appreciate being parents. Best of luck to everyone!

NEW YORK, NY (June 26, 2007) -- TV's legal eagle, Nancy Grace, has revealed that she is four months pregnant with twins. But that's not her only headliner: she also snuck off and got married!"I always said I wanted a family," Grace told Access Hollywood. "I grew up in happy, loving family [and] I wanted it too. But until now I just thought it wasn't meant to be for me. And as part of God's mysterious plan, I'm given this wonderful blessing late in life -- and I could not be happier."
The CNN "Headline News" host married Atlanta-based banker David Linch in April. The couple reportedly met when they attended Mercer College together in the late 1970s.
"I've known David...I feel my whole life. 20 years," said Nancy. "This is just a blessing. He is an investment banker -- completely different field [from mine]. I don't talk about banking, and I don't talk about the law."
But just talking about her late-in-life pregnancy brought tears to Nancy's eyes.
"Many years ago, after the death of my fiancee, I dedicated myself to criminal law," Nancy explained. "And that's been my whole life, and I never dreamed anything this wonderful could happen to me."
And as any expecting mother knows, being pregnant has its ups and downs. But for Nancy, any discomfort she may feel is well worth it.
"I'm sick -- I'm nauseous and vomiting," she remarked, "and the doctors say I should feel good about that. And I'm dying to find out if its a boy [and] a girl -- or two girls -- I've picked out a ton of names, and I'm very blessed."
Nancy told Access that the sexes of the babies will be a surprise to her, and that she can't wait to paint the kids' room and buy little outfits for them.
But what about buying clothes for herself?
"This is very first time I've shopped for maternity clothes in my life. I'm looking for things that don't pull, and that I can wear on the air and be comfortable," said Nancy, adding, "And I don't want to be worried about my buttons shooting off. I have one requirement -- that it's expandable!"
Now that Nancy is starting to show physical signs of her pregnacy, the news is hard to hide. But why did she want to keep it all a secret until now?
"I didn't want to jinx it," she disclosed. "I come from rural Georgia, and we believe in hexes and all that. I did not want to [announce] it until I was further along."
But there was also a more practical reason behind Nancy's decision to finally break the news.
"Its been very hard to keep [the secret]," she admitted. "Only my family has known - I can't hide it anymore. I've made enough excuses on why I'm sick, and [people] are going to find out."
And while she can't wait to be a mother, Nancy has no plans to give up the career that she loves.
"I'm staying with 'Headline News,'" she revealed. "I just don't have the heart to give up my victims' rights work...so I'm going to have two little crime fighters. I've got two on board!"

At age 44, in October 2005, Dr. Berger performed my TR and now, at age 45, I am 10 weeks pregnant. Even when I told my OB/gyn I was going to have the TR done, she tried to talk me into IVF. I think she's still shocked that I did it!
I too was in the best shape of my life when I started this journey. I worked out with weights and cardio 3 to 5 days a week for two years before I had the TR. Just follow your heart!!!

When 45 year old Judy Owen was suddenly paralysed from the neck down, she faced the most traumatic yet ultimately happiest year of her life…

Ever since a health scare in my 20's, I had known that it would be difficult to conceive, as I had a high cervix and a tilted womb. And indeed, it had never happened, though John and I never used any contraception. Later, in my early 40's, I had been diagnosed as pre-menopausal, so I was very much resigned to the fact that I was never going to become a parent. We counted our blessings: numerous children around us to spoil; good jobs, a great house, three cats and each other. The very idea that I could be pregnant seemed so unlikely. However, I sent John to the nearest chemist to buy a pregnancy test, fully expecting it to turn out negative.
In the meantime, I picked up my best friend, Manda, from the station. “Wow, you look great!” she exclaimed. “You’ll never guess what? I had the strangest dream about you last night. You said you were pregnant.” I looked at her and could hardly believe what she’d just said.
On the way back home I explained what had happened and, when we arrived, I did the test, which actually showed positive. I couldn’t believe my eyes and assumed it was faulty. All sorts of jumbled thoughts were going through my mind, but mostly I was thinking, “This is awful!” Part of me still didn’t really believe it, but we joked along the lines of “How could John take advantage of a disabled woman!”
The following day, I tried another pregnancy test, with the same astonishing result. I made an appointment to see my GP, Martin Harris, who confirmed that not only was I pregnant, but very pregnant. “I can’t believe what is happening to your family!” he said.
I was despatched straight away to the local hospital for a scan that confirmed I was about 28 weeks pregnant. I was terrified and thrilled at the same time. I remember the sonographer laughing and saying: “I can’t believe you didn’t realise you were pregnant.” In my emotional state, I wasn’t in the mood for joviality, and replied: “Well, have you ever been paralysed from the neck down?”

I am believing God that this baby will be full term baby, normal and healthy.

I'm the 45 year old referenced in the 04/21 pregnancy report. My TR was 11/2004 and after months of clomid and ovulation kits... We tried IUI. It was successful. I'm on close monitoring right now and am in my 7th week. My first Ultrasound didn't have a fetal pole in it but they say it just may have been a week early - so I'm having another Monday 05/08. The good news was it implanted in my uterus vs. the tube. I feel great and I pray that's a good sign. My due date is Christmas 2006.

Only one person in my family of 8 know I want to get pregnant. I am 44, newly married and have no children. After trying to conceive for a year, taking Clomid for 4 months and doctors basically saying I have no chance of getting pregnant after 40... I tested positive today, and cried with joy! If you are in your 30's or 40's, I think everyone who wants to have a baby should have others be positive and support their hearts' desire, and wish them the best. My friends have been supportive which has helped me to have hope... Hope is everything!

Only one person in my family of 8 know I want to get pregnant. I am 44, newly married and have no children. After trying to conceive for a year, taking Clomid for 4 months and doctors basically saying I have no chance of getting pregnant after 40... I tested positive today, and cried with joy! If you are in your 30's or 40's, I think everyone who wants to have a baby should have others be positive and support their hearts' desire, and wish them the best. My friends have been supportive which has helped me to have hope... Hope is everything!

Hi, I just got married 11 months ago, turned 47 one month ago and had a miscarriage also a month ago. My doctor stated I was too old and my eggs were too old to conceive but yet I did - to his, his colleagues and supervisor amazement.
I was two months and half weeks pregnant, and yet my doctor did not believe me. He stated, "Oh, you are probably going through menopause." But when he ordered labs on me, it was confirmed. It shocked the hell out of him.
When I had the miscarriage, he told me to keep trying and I proved every one wrong. Listen, only God knows and he decides all. Keep trying because I am. Good Luck to all!

My Mum was 45 in 1966 when she gave birth to identical twin girls. (I'm one of them)! She was working as a midwife at the time, and carried to term we were 6 pound each! Dad was, wait for it, 62! They also had a 10 year old daughter.
By all accounts we were beautiful, healthy babies, complete with golden curls. Our parents had enough energy for us all, and were always there for us. Because their working days were over when we were born, they had plenty of time for us all! Even in the teenage years, they listened to all our woes and supported us.
They saw & enjoyed 10 grandchildren. Dad died 3 years ago at 98, and Mum 18 months later at 82. They kept good health pretty much all their lives. Many of our friends lost their parents before we lost ours. We all adored them.

Follow your heart! I had my first baby at 41 and will be having my second one a few weeks before I turn 44. We know the risks and are willing to take the chance. Our firstborn is incredible.
We didn't need to use fertility methods... but I had been on prenatal vitamins for a long time before conception. God has blessed us. Having a baby was a dream come true... one I thought I had given up in my 30's.
I didn't have the opportunity to be happily married and to be pregnant when I was younger. Now I am married and extremely happy. You have to decide if it is right for you and your husband...not for everyone else.

My mom says having a baby when you are older helps you focus more on that baby and she says it helps keep you young. All her friends were knitting and she was out paddle-boating on a lake with me and going to school field trips! She has tons of energy.
I say GO FOR IT! I loved it that my parents were older, because they are wiser and love me more, but at the same time, I fear I may lose them because of age and am jealous of siblings who got to have more time with my mom and dad.

Last year I read a study that said that moms that had any children after age 40 were on average, very long-lived. It made sense to me, because my grandmother had three of her kids over the age of 40 and lived till 97.

I have an older friend who just had a baby. Mom is 48 years old, and just had bypass surgery last year to boot! She had no trouble conceiving and had only smaller adaptations she needed to make during her pregnancy.
She did go through some exams to provide the doctors with details of the baby so they could treat her accordingly throughout the pregnancy, and she did have to have a C-section because of the heart surgery last year. However, she and her husband now have an absolutely beautiful and perfect little baby boy!

Its really your choice. I'm 20. I love my mom and dad and feel they prepared me well, they are now 65 and 69. As the child of older parents, my fear is that I will lose them soon as being raised as an only child (despite having 4 older siblings ages 35-43) because my brothers and sisters were out of the house I am a lot closer to my parents and very very very attached to them

Other factors have to be taken into consideration, such as genetics, family history and lifestyle. Some women, like my grandmother, are able to conceive easily and naturally at 46. Why are we never told these figures?

I have an older friend who just had a baby. Mom is 48 years old, and just had bypass surgery last year to boot! She had no trouble conceiving and had only smaller adaptations she needed to make during her pregnancy.
She did go through some exams to provide the doctors with details of the baby so they could treat her accordingly throughout the pregnancy, and she did have to have a C-section because of the heart surgery last year. However, she and her husband now have an absolutely beautiful and perfect little baby boy!

Its really your choice. I'm 20. I love my mom and dad and feel they prepared me well, they are now 65 and 69. As the child of older parents, my fear is that I will lose them soon as being raised as an only child (despite having 4 older siblings ages 35-43) because my brothers and sisters were out of the house I am a lot closer to my parents and very very very attached to them

I have two friends who got pregnant naturally, with their own eggs, one at 46 and one at 47.

100 years ago, it relatively common for people to see a woman in her 50's with a baby in her arms, and every now and then you would see a woman in her mid 60's with her own baby in her arms.
In the last 50 years or so, there has been a frightening drop in fertility. In 2006, 35 year old women are less fertile than women age 45-50, were 100 years ago. Women are designed to have children from the start of menstruation to a year or two before the menopause. And if menopause isn't till 65, then 100 years ago, a woman would still be getting pregnant, age 63, and giving birth age 64. But the massive drop in fertility means that it is becoming increasingly uncommon for women over 35 to get pregnant without assistance. And no one seems to be interested, in investigating this loss of fertility.
And it is not just women who are becoming more, and more infertile. 100 years ago, sperm counts were typically 100 million sperm per sample, but now they are 30 million sperm per sample, and falling.
So 100 years ago, although it would have been unusual for a 62 year old women to give birth, every large community had a woman in her 60's with her own babe in her arms. So what has gone so terribly with women's/men's fertility, that, now, makes us think that Patricia Rashbrook is unusual?

After I switched doctors - the new doctor wanted to mention to me, as I was walking out the door... That another patient who had tried for awhile - gave up all meds, herbs, iui, etc and took a break. She got pregnant a couple months later, after giving everything up, and delivered a healthy 7 pound baby and the topper - SHE WAS 45..... So I try, and remember this story and others, when I get depressed over this issue.

ANSWER: You’re not such an old lady at 45. As I have told another list subscriber, I grew up with a girl who was born to her mother at the mother’s age of 54, when the mom had not been cycling for a couple years or so. I’ve been reading about this for another woman, also desiring more in the quiver, and have found that the very best thing to try would be Vitex (agnus-castus), taken 1-2 capsules every morning during the whole cycle. The normalizing effect on the hormones tends to increase fertility quite naturally.

I sincerely believe that I was able to carry so easily because I used my own relaxation techniques and have a healthy body due to years of exercise, yoga, tai chi and right eating.
Indeed, during the pregnancy I spent a great of time in meditation and relaxation. I feel that the 9 months of gestation are crucial for the developing fetus and affect the rest of her life.

The short answer is that it was rather later in previous centuries than it is now. The reason is that women both started and finished menstruating later: something to do with the quality of nutrition, I believe. So whereas birth in one's 4'0s would now be considered late, it was common in previous centuries, and the oldest case I have come across is a woman giving birth at 52, although that is definitely unusual.

A dear friend of mine, Mary, had her first child five months ago, and she's 47. She spent a lot of money on fertility doctors and they told her she couldn't conceive.
Well, one day Mary wasn't feeling well, went to the doctor and they gave her the surprising news that a baby was coming! Her health is not the best. She's had cancer and other health problems.
Mary’s baby, David, Jr. is healthy, happy and very spoiled. Mary and her husband are thrilled and feel blessed – along with being very tired. Good luck to you with this decision.

I had five children...first child at 19 and last at 46. My early family... I had lots of energy to play on the floor, baseball, hiking, etc., but no wisdom about how to be a parent rather than a friend.
My late family... I had lots of wisdom and did a better job of parenting, but couldn't keep up as well with the physical stuff. Age is not the issue. The issue is why do you want to have a child, and are you prepared to give your all to parenting. There is great joy and great pain involved.

Anyway, the older parents of my anecdote have plenty of money, and are delighted with the wild, unexpected turn that their life has taken.

I am a PREGNANT 45 year old with a 14-month-old son. Our second son due in February. I married for the first time at 43. My husband is two years younger than me and this is his first marriage as well.
My OB says he uses me as an example for older women who want to have children. My parents also married in their 40's and my mom had me, her only child, at 43.
My husband and I feel we have a better chance at a successful marriage and at being good parents since we've already had the freedom to do anything we wanted and have no resentment over our new responsibilities. We've also had the opportunity to become more financially stable.

I am 50 with a six year old and twins who are 3. I waited a long time, but it's well worth it. Sure there are days when I wish I didn’t have to this or that, but then I look at the blessings God gave me, and am very thankful.
My husband is a big help, and that in itself is wonderful of course being 20 years younger helps too. We’ve been married 10 years - Demi Moore has nothing on me.

I'm a certified labour doula (professional labour assistant, or as some like to call me "professional birth coach."). I don't believe in "too old to have kids." I've assisted mothers aged 16 to 45, and can tell you their labours were no more difficult than those older or younger.
Each family has been unique (I’ve assisted about 20), and each mother completely different. Older parents do have some advantages over younger: more likely to be financially stable, more life experience, more time to gain education on parenting topics, more confidence in their abilities.

My OB says he uses me as an example for older women who want to have children. My parents also married in their 40's and my mom had me, her only child, at 43.
My husband and I feel we have a better chance at a successful marriage and at being good parents since we've already had the freedom to do anything we wanted and have no resentment over our new responsibilities. We've also had the opportunity to become more financially stable.

I am 50 with a six year old and twins who are 3. I waited a long time, but it's well worth it. Sure there are days when I wish I didn’t have to this or that, but then I look at the blessings God gave me, and am very thankful.
My husband is a big help, and that in itself is wonderful of course being 20 years younger helps too. We’ve been married 10 years - Demi Moore has nothing on me.

Granulated herbs are equally good the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) guy told me and he said he had success with a 48 year old who has just given birth (with own egg)

My husband and I had decided to give up TTC, and I was ok with it. I had been taking a lot of different medicines trying to conceive but nothing was working so I stopped taking all of it 2 cycles ago. So this month, I end up pregnant and now I'm freaking out. I wasn't being careful considering I had been trying to get pregnant for well over 2 years, and nothing happened. I had a CT scan and now I'm scared about how that will affect the baby. Not to mention being 45.5 isn't helpful either.

I've got a friend whose mother delivered at 47 and her mother-in-law at 48 ( we're talking in the early 50's ladies -- no donor eggs! ) I even heard about a woman in our church who was expecting at 50.

My RE said genetics do play an albeit small part. My great g'ma had 14 pregnancies, 11 live births, 3 miscarriages (that she knew of) and had kid #11 at 44 or 45...
My cousin (her granddaughter and my mom's 1st cousin) had a baby at 43 (and conceived at around 43).

My sister in Law is 44 in January, and 29 weeks pregnant with her first, after doing 3 cycles of IVF. She saw an RE near Surfer Paradise. She is great with mature age ladies.

On Thursday I also saw another Chinese herbalist/acupuncturist, and he specializes in fertility. I said that I am scared of more miscarriages. He said, when you have one, you need to wait 3 months. I said, I can't wait, I've just gone closer to 42.
He laughed and said I was young. He had helped a 48 year old conceive and give birth using her own eggs a few months ago, and he has another patient who is 45 and had 9 or more miscarriages. She is now 38 weeks pregnant with her first baby.

I agree with continuing to try though because my next door neighbour's mother had her youngest sister at 48! Naturally of course back then...
I also have a friend that conceived late 45, delivered 46...
