I am 44 & due December 17th

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, December 17, 2007 | 0 comments

I got most of you beat, I am 44 and due December 17th. As this was a surprise pregnancy, I was not a happy camper when I first found out about this pregnancy, and like others, was nervous about what other people would think (like my mom).

I have had nothing but support, ESPECIALLY from my mom. At first I was terrified of the future because my parents were older when they had me and they were fuddy-duddies, but I realized that having a baby can keep you young!

My five year old definitely keeps me young and most of my friends now are much younger because I hang with people who have kids my son's age. I often forget about my age.

I am 45, and just found out I am pregnant. This is my second pregnancy, and I thought I was going through menopause. It wasn't menopause I was experiencing I was pregnant.

At first I was very scared since I had bleed twice. I have a 8 year old daughter and 5 year old son. I was 40 1/2 when I had him, easy pregnancy no complications, and he was a healthy baby.

I am now divorced. The father of my baby wants me to have an abortion, however, abortion is not for me. I bled again last week and on Monday all was well. I am getting very excited, however, being only 7 weeks pregnant I am still scared.

Hi, I've just found out today I am pregnant - I am 4 weeks, so very early days. I have had four pregnancies in the past six years, all miscarried or were blighted ovums, so expect this one will go the same way but who knows?? We had stopped TTC in the summer and it just happened. Am I the oldest here at 48?

My grandmother had 2 children in her 40's. Her last at 47. I only found that out a few years ago, and was very surprised. She never seemed "too old" with my aunts and uncles! Knowing that my own grandmother did it gave me inspiration to continue TTC into my 40's.

I have been an RN for 15 years, 10 of those years was working in labour/delivery and maternity. I have seen many women have babies in their late 30's and 40's, some with help some without. One of my co-workers from my last job just got pregnant at age 44. She has 2 children, ages 18 and 20. I believe any woman who has the love, willingness, maturity and selflessness to be a parent can be a great mother or father no matter what their age.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
