I am 44 & 6 months pregnant

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, September 24, 2007 | 0 comments

I am 44, and 6 months pregnant with my third child. My other 2 are 17 and 4. I did conceive spontaneously. Actually I thought I was in menopause, had no period for 6 months, then 2 , then none. Turned out number 3 is on the way.

I am 44 and expect my first baby (a girl) in mid September. This was a complete surprise. I had years ago written off any chance of motherhood. We weren't trying too hard to avoid pregnancy, but we sure weren't trying for it.

The pregnancy has been medically uneventful. I've had other (non-baby related) medical problems and was hospitalized for a couple of nights last month. I've enjoyed much of the experience so far, but have certainly done my share of whining. After my health problems last month, I am happy to be "just pregnant" in August.

I am pregnant at 45 - will turn 46 within weeks of the baby’s birth if all goes as planned. We definitely did not plan to have any more children. I have 4, 21 year old twin boys from 1st marriage, 8 and almost 6 year old girls with my forever husband. My husband had a vasectomy but never went back to be sure the sperm count was really zero... It was not.

Turns out at 45, I am now 23 weeks pregnant with my 48 year old husband who will turn the everlasting 49 within a month of the baby boy's birth. Took a long time to get used to the idea of another child but now we are looking forward to him.

First daughter at 42 and second at 45... Both natural and, while they were my first, they were my husband's 3 and 4th daughters. He had to have 2 vasectomy reversals as the first didn't work...

Both were done with no assistance. We just thought we would let nature do it's work and accept what happened.

The naturopath I work with treated a 52 year old woman who was in the beginning stages of menopause. She also had chronic fatigue syndrome. He worked with her for about a year and she became pregnant and had a healthy baby. It was her only child. There are other stories of natural pregnancies over 50. It can happen!!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
