She has another child on the way at 46

YOU'RE 46 and after giving the better part of your life to your nagging children, you're ready to have a good time. And then, like a dark cloud on a sunny day, hot flashes and nausea takes over. You think it's menopause with the depression, the irritation and the mood swings. So you go to your gynaecologist, and she tells you -- you're PREGNANT.

This is what happened to Antonette Hudson. A mother of four, the youngest being 11, Mrs. Hudson has another child on the way. Now in the eighth month of pregnancy Mrs. Hudson is trying to rekindle what she thinks is her 'lost art of mothering a newborn' her new born. Again.

She's not alone. Forty-seven-year-old Florence Kingsays she suffered a similar fate last year. Ms. King is now the mother of seven-month-old Julian. Both mother and baby are now in Miami. Ms. King went to Miami because she says she felt "uneasy being in Jamaica with a child and grandchild almost the same age."

Ms. King's daughter who is 25 gave birth to her first born three months before Julian was born. She says she now has to get used to being a mother again and a grandmother all at the same time.

A friend of mine is TTC and she knows a lady called June who has just given birth to her OWN child at 47. The story is written up in September Mother and Baby magazine in the UK but here is a synopsis...

June met her husband in her 40's - he is now 46. They got pregnant several times but each resulted in miscarriage. After being given the DE speech ....

Finally June decided it must be something to do with implantation and thought that progesterone and heparin might help. No UK clinic would help her except an older woman friendly UK RE called Dr Najia. She got pregnant again and with the nuchal scan was given a 1 in 120 for Downs. The pregnancy went ahead well and she gave birth to a completely healthy baby boy at 47 years old! She conceived just after her 47th birthday.

I had a grandma conceive at 54. I guess I come from a long line of vibrant older women. My mom got her BS at 75.

My 56 year old sister surfs, scuba dives and is opening a B&B in the Caribbean, my 91 year old grandmother still dances "the dirty boogie." and has a sparkle in her eye. My 89 year old grandmother has a boyfriend 20 years her junior and travels all over with him and alone.

I had my first at 22, second at 44, and am trying for a third. I will be 46 in October.
WISH ME LUCK!! P.S. - Both were done the "old fashioned" way.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
