She gave up & at 50, got pregnant

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, July 27, 2007 | 0 comments

I have a colleague who tried for 25 yrs to get pregnant. She gave up and at 50, she hit menopause full blast and you know what? Got pregnant. Outta the blue. It was a much-talked-about, viable, healthy, normal pregnancy with a healthy live birth as the creme de la creme (did I write that correct)?

I recently read about a 46 year old woman who got pregnant via IVF, using her own eggs. I read about it on fertileheart.com.

When Loretta Sharpe, a 46-year-old mother of four, was asked repeatedly if her fourth pregnancy was accidental or planned, she developed a convenient comeback. “I would answer, ‘Unplanned but not unwanted,’” she says. “Because I was a little older, people wondered if I really wanted this baby. I just prepared myself with a response.”

I also look much younger than my age, and my RE stated that usually means you are also young on the inside, of course meaning your organs. Anyway I became pregnant at 45 with non med IUI's, delivered a healthy baby boy, who is almost 4 years old!!

My grandmother had 3 children in her 40's and is now 90 years old. She has not ONE strand of grey in her light brown hair. Never has.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
